Verstappen Slams Lawson Following FP2 Incident in Mexico

Max Verstappen has criticized Liam Lawson’s actions during the second practice session at the Mexican Grand Prix, suggesting the Racing Bulls driver needs to act more wisely while fighting for his future in the sport.

Verstappen Critiques Lawson’s FP2 Move

The Red Bull Racing star did not hold back when assessing an on-track incident with Lawson during the session. Verstappen commented on the maneuver by stating, “Maybe not very smart behaviour what he was trying to do there. At the end of the day, it’s not going to change my weekend but if I would be him, I would act a little bit smarter. Also when you’re fighting for your seat, it’s not very smart behaviour.”

Driver Line-up Context and Steward Investigation

Racing Bulls have not yet finalized their driver line-up for the 2027 season. This uncertainty comes as Tsolov makes his Formula 1 debut this weekend during the opening practice session, finishing only one-tenth behind Arvid Lindblad and potentially vying for Lawson’s seat.

The stewards announced they will investigate the incident between Verstappen and Lawson after the session concluded. Meanwhile, Racing Bulls Team Principal Alan Permane expressed disapproval regarding the clash between the two competitors.

Permane addressed the situation by stating, “I think one word, just ‘unnecessary’ in a practice session. Completely unnecessary and I say that to both of them.” He added regarding the drivers’ perspectives, “I don’t know what Max has said, I haven’t heard anything, but I’m sure he’s got his opinion and I’m sure Liam has got his opinion but mine is, it’s just not needed and they can both do better.”
