Vienna Open Update

Fearnley dropped his serve during his second service game, allowing the British No 1 to secure two consecutive games and take control of the opening set. Rather than continue, Fearnley shook the umpire’s hand and withdrew from the tournament due to an unspecified injury, sending Fery through to the next stage.

Fery will advance to face the winner of the match between sixth seed Frances Tiafoe and Lorenzo Musetti in the second round. Fery previously suffered a straight-sets defeat against Musetti at the US Open.

Guangzhou Open Success for Dart

Harriet Dart advanced to the second round of the Guangzhou Open in China with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Russian qualifier Tatiana Prozorova. Dart, who also progressed through the qualifying rounds, navigated a fluctuating contest where both players faced difficulties holding their serves. The British number five secured three breaks in the final set to establish a 5-2 lead before serving out the match to complete the win in two hours and 15 minutes.

Dart will next play against Uzbekistan player Polina Kudermetova or Indonesia’s Janice Tjen in the round of 16.

Stojsavljevic Exits in Tokyo

British teenager Mika Stojsavljevic exited the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo following a 6-1, 6-2 defeat against Filipino world number 19 Alexandra Eala. The 17-year-old, who captured the girls’ singles title at the 2024 US Open, received a wildcard entry into the WTA 500 event but dropped her serve twice in each set during the one-hour-and-15-minute loss.
